Geoffrey Doig-Marx

Educator, Choreographer, Director, Mentor, Artist, Illustrator, Writer, Mentor, CEO, Alchemist, Renaissance Man
Named one of  “Nine Dancemakers Making History” 

Geoffrey Doig-Marx (GDM) is a distinguished faculty member at Marymount Manhattan College (2000-present) and Montclair State University (2009-present), and he previously taught at Rider University/ARB’s Princeton Ballet School for 18 years.

A member of Actor’s Equity and an Associate Member of The Society of Directors and Choreographers, Geoffrey is the founder and former Artistic Director of The Mantis Project Dance Company (10 years). He also founded and served as the Artistic Director/Director of The Elan Awards from 1999 to 2006.

Geoffrey holds a B.A. in Musical Theatre Dance from SUNY Empire State College.

His directing credits span New York regional theatres, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway, as well as children’s theatre and New York cabarets. Notable productions include The FantasticksIt’s a Women’s World, and the critically acclaimed The Music of Andrea Green.

For eight years, Geoffrey was the resident choreographer at Park Playhouse, with choreography credits including Annie Get Your GunFiddler on the RoofHands on a HardbodyThe ProducersSpamalot, and Cabaret, which was named one of the top 10 shows of 2012 by Bob Geopfert. Other notable choreography credits include The Drowsy Chaperone at Westminster Choir College and Kiss of the Spider Woman at Montclair State University, directed by Clay James.

As a producer, artistic director, and director, Geoffrey received a Certificate of Excellence in Cultural Achievement from the Manhattan Borough President’s Office, presented by the Mayor of New York City, for his work with The Elan Awards. The Elan Awards are now part of the archives of The New York City Performing Arts Library.

As a performer, Geoffrey appeared in the Equity National Tours and regional productions of West Side StoryA Chorus LineDames at SeaCabaretLa Cage aux FollesFiddler on the RoofJesus Christ Superstar, and more.

Geoffrey’s personal journey began at age 15, when he was removed from his home and spent time in runaway shelters and group homes in the Albany area. In the mid-1980s, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in dance, musical theatre, and choreography.

In December 2011, Geoffrey married and moved to Harlem, where he began painting, photographing, and writing, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his artistic career. Today, he has created thousands of art pieces. As Broadway legend Chita Rivera once said, “I don’t like a lot of art. I only like two pieces I have in my home. My GDM and my Hirschfeld.”

Geoffrey’s first solo gallery show in New York took place at The Lanyon 36 Gallery in 2015. His work is now displayed at Peridance, The Broadway Dance Center, and The Martha Graham Dance Company.

Geoffrey was the resident artist at POSH NYC for eight years, The West End Lounge for four years, and The Pecore in Harlem (2013-present).

He has two books available on Amazon: Agnes and the Museum of Art, a children’s book, and Down the Rabbit Hole, his first biography.

In April 2024, Geoffrey teamed up with director Michael LoPorto to choreograph American Idiot for BrooklynONE Productions.
